Customisable excellence

From Leaf to
Lab-Ready Protein

Inspired by nature, we specialise in extracting and refining silk proteins with full control of the production chain – from organic mulberry cultivation at Orto San Marco to high-purity, lab- ready proteins. Our closed-loop approach guarantees full traceability and compliance with high-quality standards. Beyond product supply, we transfer knowledge consolidated through more than 35 years of scientific research and over 5 years of operational silk production, further reinforcing our commitment to innovation.

From innovation

to application

OSILK BRIDGES PIONEERING RESEARCH WITH REAL-WORLD SOLUTIONS.

Applications

Osilk delivers silk proteins with defined molecular integrity and reproducibility, ensuring consistent performance across research, development and industrial settings with guaranteed traceability, quality and scalability. Our proteins can serve as reliable buildingblocks for multiple high-value sectors, where stability, biocompatibility and versatility are critical. With this approach, we bridge the gap between fundamental research and market-ready solutions, offering partners both materials and expertise to transform innovation into tangible impact.

Biomedicine

In biomedicine silk proteins provide biocompatible and biodegradable matrices that serve as scaffolds for tissue engineering and wound healing.

Pharmaceuticals

In pharmaceuticals, they act as stabilising carriers and as vectors enabling the controlled delivery of active principles.

Nutrition

In nutrition, their balanced amino acid profile, high digestibility, and proven biocompatibility highlight their potential as sustainable functional protein sources and as coatings that preserve fruit freshness and stability.

Cosmetics

In cosmetics, they function not only as protective film-forming agents but also as nurturing biomaterials that enhance skin and hair health.

Products

From our extracted fibroin and sericin, a wide range of innovative products can be developed. Potential applications include biomedical devices, wound dressings, scaffolds for tissue engineering, drug delivery systems, cosmetics for skin and hair care, functional nutrition ingredients and protective edible coatings, as well as advanced technical materials for industrial use such as innovative bioinks.
At OSilk, we collaborate closely with research institutes and private companies to co-develop tailor-made solutions, leveraging our scientific know-how and production expertise to accelerate innovation.

Our company

Our company is built on more than 35 years of internationally recognised research, which forms the foundation of everything we do. Drawing on this scientific heritage, we have developed deep expertise in the production of organic silk, combining traditional practices with advanced technological processes. Over the past years, this knowledge has been translated into a vertically integrated model that allows us to cultivate, process and refine silk proteins with precision and care.

What Our Clients Say

We used Bombyx mori silk cocoons supplied by OSilk srl to develop several conductive silk-based hydrogels for tissue engineering applications. These cocoons yield high-quality silk fibroin proteins, characterized by excellent transparency, superior biocompatibility, and ease of handling. The silk fibers degummed from these cocoons exhibit greater solubility in LiBr, ensuring minimal impurities in the final product. Notably, this silk fibroin variant offers a shelf life of nearly a month at 4°C, significantly longer than the silk fibroin solution derived from Bombyx mori silk of Indian origin.
